Berchtesgaden & Königssee, Bavaria, Germany

Our comfortable Bavarian digs...
offered some of the most wholesome and tasty food we had in Germany.
We'd spent the previous day at the Eagle's Nest, from where we could just make out the "Königssee" lake through the clouds below us. Today, we decided to visit this gem.
As the weather was clearer, we were able to look up to the surrounding ridges...
... to spot the Eagle's Nest where we'd been (below is a magnified view of the above). The view today must have been fabulous from there ...
... but it was plenty nice down below, too!
During our boat ride to the hiking trails at the end of the lake, our boatswain demonstrated the Königssee echo. Some say that, in the old days when the boat captains fired cannons to demonstrate it, one could count seven successive reverberations.
Our afternoon hike led to a waterfall and a secluded farm, complete with tinkling cowbells ...
... and friendly ducks!
